Helena’s life has taken a turn for the better, following her relocation to Härjedalen. Now, she’s making waffles for a living, but she longs for more. This is when she notices the old yellow house where Hilda – the woman who previously ran the waffle hut – once lived. The discovery arouses curiosity about Hilda’s life and person.

In the beginning of the 1970s, Hilda is living in an unhappy, childless marriage. The only thing that keeps her afloat is the waffle making and the guests she encounters, but deep inside she harbours a longing to sew. When a film crew from Stockholm suddenly shows up, Hilda suddenly find herself at a crossroads, being offered work to make their costumes. But can she find the courage to follow her dreams and change her life forever?

Reviews:

"A story about how joy and sorrow shape us, about how great the power of habit is. The language in the book flows like the water in a mountain stream, clean and clear. Magical nature scenes and penetrating personal portraits make this book something very special.”
– BTJ, library services rating 5/5

"Karin Härjegård depicts everything, both people and environments, with such love that it makes me happy. As happy as you can almost only get from a really good book..."
