At the end of the 19th century, Kristina Hansson comes to Åre. It is a small village, but Åreskutan has started to attract people. The number of air guests is increasing. Kristina realizes that there is a need for a hotel in the village, and decides to have the village's very first hotel built.
But the decision arouses great skepticism among the local residents. Will she, a young woman from Skåne, really manage to run a hotel? And how does she think it will be profitable? She faces constant setbacks and questioning, and when she is finally invited to a grand opening of the hotel, she has no idea that the struggle has only just begun.
The Queen of Åre is one of Karin Härjegård's earlier books, which is now finally available in audio. The book is part of the stand-alone series Women through History
