A snowstorm sweeps over the Kiruna mountains in late April. In the storm, seventeen-year-old Sara disappears from a party. Roads are closed, lifts are at a standstill and the snow erases all traces. Mountain rescuer Mira Salo is called in to help with the search. She knew Sara and the search becomes brutally personal. Just hours before the girl disappeared, something seemed to weigh on Sara. But what?

At the same time, Kiruna is shaken by several ritual murders and police officers Boel and Jörn are kept busy. The victims seem to have nothing in common, but before each murder strange messages are sent to them, confessions and accusations, words that point to a betrayal.

The closer Mira and the police get to the truth, the more everything points to the disappearance and the murders being connected. And that more than one person close to Sara is doing everything they can to prevent old sins from coming to the surface.

The Dark Day is a dense and dark thriller about guilt, secrets and what happens when someone decides to demand justice.

Part 2 in the series about Mira Salo in Kiruna. Mira is forced to navigate wild natural forces and human darkness, while trying to keep her private life together.
